About Jeddah

Jeddah is Saudi Arabia's Red Sea gateway — a cosmopolitan port city with the UNESCO-listed coral-stone old town of Al-Balad, the world's tallest fountain on the Corniche, world-class Red Sea diving and the pilgrimage entry point for Makkah and Madinah. It's more relaxed and diverse than Riyadh, with a stronger café, art-gallery and Formula 1 street-race scene.

En bref

  • Red Sea gateway — UNESCO Al-Balad old town, Corniche resorts and pilgrimage entry to Makkah/Madinah.
  • November–March is peak with 22–30°C days; summer is hot and humid.
  • More relaxed than Riyadh — abayas not expected for female visitors.
  • Dry country — no alcohol at any hotel or restaurant.
  • Currency SAR; Type G 230V plugs; tap water is desalinated — bottled is the local norm.
